I posted this on the regular board and was advised to bring it here. I've been on Effexor xr for about a year or so with varying degrees of success. About a week and a half ago I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and my nutritionist put me on a higher protein diet as well as two different kinds of supplements: GlucoBalance and Fish Oil capsules.
This is all well and good EXCEPT that I've been crying ever since. Is it possible something in my supplements could be cancelling out the effexor? The irony is that the fish oil is supposed to be great for one's emotional health. Heh. I called my nutritionist and she suspects I'm experiencing sugar/simple carb withdrawal. I'm not so sure. I went without the supplements for a day or two, started to feel better, tried them again and spiralled into a weepy depression.Has anyone heard of anything like this?

In reply to effexor rendered ineffective by supplements??, posted by ghelipha on May 4, 2004, at 9:53:22
I've just experienced a similar effect by taking Black Cohosh. I have been doing very well on Serzone and Lamictal, but changed my birth control pill downward and started getting night sweats each night. So five days ago I began to take Black Cohosh and almost instantly I have succumbed to an agitated depression. I went back off it yesterday; so far no change, still agitated. And night sweats back in force. Did research on black cohosh -- just as with the fish oils, it's supposed to help your mood. Freaky. Any one else out there?

I noticed that ginkgo rendered my Celexa ineffective. It heled the sexual dysfunction (what it is generally used for) however it left
me fairly depressed.Linkadge

Yes, I am currently on Lamictal 150mgs. and Prozac 20mgs. I was taking Black Cohosh for perimenopausal symptoms and the next day I was in such a state of profound depression, it was scary. No more for me. I wish it would have worked
