Thanks for this article MKB.
I had been blaming tyrosine for an increase in my fibromyalgic/muscle trigger pain lately. However after reading this article I think I might stop taking glutamine which I had been taking daily.
Larry Hoover also mentioned magnesium and taurine as being useful. I found magnesium helped but I haven't tried taurine yet.Which drug is the most effective for increasing GABA (and dopamine)? I'm sure a lack of GABA plays a big role and social anxiety is just another symptom of this deficiency.

I have seen naltrexone 4.5mg at night working well for the relief of the severe pain of fibromyalgia. It takes a while to achieve its maximum effect but there is nothing else I have seen that works so well for sufferers. See www.lowdosenaltrexone.org. It works for lots of other conditions too including MS,various cancers and auto-immune diseases.Note though that this information is based on patient feed-back and not on clinical trials.Naltrexone is a prescription drug so you will need to see a physician to get it.It is mostly used for keeping addicts off opiates but the dose there is 50mg daily.

Hello Ed
Thanks for the information on naltrexone. If I had a personal script pad I would dabble with many drugs (and combinations). The GP hurdle is formidable though.I am actually having some success with magnesium. If I take about 1/3 tsp of magnesium it makes my muscles soften and relax. It also stops foot cramps. After reading some of the links supplied in posts, I suspect I may have had a deficiency of Mg from symptoms such as eyelid twitches and migraines.
Mg dose effects don't last v long though - around 3-4 hours.
Does anyone know whether taking Mg regularly will eventually sustain the positive effects?I was hoping that Mg might also ease social anxiety. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have any effect on that.

Hi Sabre
I've been using magnesium 4 years (500mg 2X). You are right, it does relax the muscles and migraines went from 2 a week to about 1 a month. A bonus - it has definitely helped my IBS. I also take calcium because it seems to have an additive effect with the Mg and helps me sleep at night. Now the bad news, when I've gone off Mg the bad stuff starts reappearing, usually within 2-3 days. Since FMS people are naturally low in Mg I guess it makes sense. And no, it doesn't help my social anxiety. I'm still working on that one.
