Because I tried 5-htp a while back and it kind of activated me (no energy but an underlying edginess), I'm leary of l-tryptophan being a cure for insomnia, which I have severely.
Would it be safe to combine it with 15mgs of remeron, or 1 mg of klonopin?
Also, when I tried 5-htp, it made me a little agressive. Is there a high probability that I'll have the same side effect with l-tryptophan?
I'm just full of questions these days!
Thanks,
cherylann

Start taking a low dose, and escalate the dose slowly. This allows you to detect interactions without those interactions being serious.

I don't think so. 5-HTP is converted in the bloodstream to serotonin. Serotonin in the blood does things that can trigger the release of adrenal hormones, which can make you tense and irritable. That's one of the reasons I generally steer people towards tryptophan. Your body knows how to manage tryptophan in the blood. It has no experience handling 5-HTP in the blood, because mama nature doesn't normally let that happen.
