Hi, my liver has taken quite a hammering over a long period of time, due to alcohol abuse...very heavy drinking ,however my gp has said it is still able to recover(but he clearly can't be bothered to tell me anything else just not to drink) and i'm not drinking now, just wondered if anyone got any tips to help facilitate recovery,I don't even know exactly what vitamins I should be taking after drinking for so long !(day three no booze)
Thanks
Louise

Congratulations on the three day record!
Vitamin E 400 IUs with Selenium 200 mgs
spirulina is very good too.
Vitamin C 500mgs 3 times a day
Alpha Lipoic AcidYou might decide to visit vitaminshopppe.com and find one of their liver combinations. Sourse Naturals has one called "Liver Guard" that is very good. At the very least get something with Milk Thistle in it.
For the sake of "seeing with thine own eyes" why don't you go to one of the many "liver sites" at Google.com?

Oh, yeah, I forgot to include 2 of the most powerful (yet very safe) liver support products-NAC and SAme. Again, look it up on Google or more specifically one of the liver sites.

Yes, SAMe is believed to be good (i'm not sure how much or for how long to take before benefits). Turmeric extract i believe is also quite good. But definitely do some research on and buy some good quality Milk Thistle extract, and make sure you use enough. Research has had very positive and dramatic results with Milk Thistle for a vaRIety of liver-related problems, including even fairly severe liver damage. i don't know of any sources but just look for them (esp on Medline or something like that).
