Effexor XL POISON !

Posted by fiona bowden on May 7, 2004, at 6:14:03

Well i have never used one of these kind of sites before but i have been trying to get as much info on the anti-depessent drug EFFEXOR XL as possible.I am just recovering from the worst experience i have ever had, withdrawing from this horrible drug, and i would like to know how others have found it and if there is anything we can do to get the manufacturers of the drug to take responsibility for what it can potentialy do to people.

Hello again just wanted to say how nice it was to get a response to my first post. I think i am going to get a lot out of this babble thing.I am from Scotland (uk) so some things will be a bit different for me, for eg FAD.maybe i will see if there is a similar site in the UK for info about medication and the law etc. Kind regards.

hello again. i said that i don't like medicine, but i still am going to take some. i've been on my own for years and didn't get anie better. i don't reallie have anie other choice. i don't think that all meds are bad. i just think that you gotta find the right one. i also think that medicines can't cure you. they can however help you get through things. i just don't like them because they are fake. they alter you. especiallie anti-depressants. i was on paxil and all it does is numb your emotions so that you don't feel so bad. the problem is, for me, it blocks your weaker emotions first. my weaker emotions included joy and happieness. all i had was pain, sorrow, hate, and emptieness. i'm in withdrawal now but i preffer it over the medicines real effect. so i hope that you find your answer. good luck. HUGS!!!

Hi, Fi,
You might get some good info from 'psycho babble' which is the original board here (used for med issues these days). There are many threads about Effexor withdrawal, one of them mine, I think.

If you want to just chat with other folks (not so med oriented) you could try pyscho social babble.

Whatever happens, good luck and welcome!

Shar

Hi! I am new to this site as well. Have been off effexor for only 1 1/2 days now. It's going to be hell I am sure but I am bound and determined to do it. I too gained weight going from a size 6 to a 14 in very little time. VERY DEPRESSING! As I wasn't depressed enough LOL! I read another post on here how Effexor isn't considered an addictive med....HAHAHAHAHAHA. I 100% agreed with that post how pharm. companies try to make money that way. If this isn't the same as going through withdrawl I do not what is. Thanks for leaving your post, I'm glad I found it to help me see that there will be light! SanityPlz

Hi sha! Sorry ti took me a bit to get back to you but I just went through the worst few days of my life phyically and didn't even get near the computer. YEA on you joining weight watchers! I HAVE to do something I am so disgusted with how I look. I am hoping that being less in a medicated fog all the time will give me the energy I need to walk at night. It's so comforting to know that only the fist week or so is the worst. Now that my head doesn't feel like it's going to explode I think I deal with the shakes, etc. I will send you an email at aol later, I have to get my boys ready, my oldest had testing for school today. My aol is thea812@aol.com if you want to send a note! Sanity

Hi Guys,

It's nice to find you! I'm on the same schedule that you are on. I stopped taking Effexor -- well, it will be three weeks on Wednesday. I'm at about 85 percent okay now. I thought it was 90 percent, but I slept through most of today; so maybe I'm not as okay as I thought.

The same "bad word" family practice doctor also mistakenly had the Oxycontin drug rep talk me into taking that one for my back pain, and believe it or not, that was an easier withdrawal. Even though I stopped taking Effexor on a whim, I now go to a terrific internist. He just never asked me why I was taking it or who originally prescribed it.

The best part is that I guess I must eat so well to begin with that the weight came off of me as if I had just given birth. It's almost hard to believe. I had so much fun shopping at Bebe today cause everything fit. The salesgirl laughed at me cause I pulled in some sweaters in "large," and she said that I wasn't a "large." Well, she was right, and I was happy :-).

Do they put something in the drug to make it so painful to stop taking? I took it for three years. If anyone told me about the potential problems, I wouldn't have gone near it in a million years. Effexor=poison, I'm quite sure. The biggest question I have now is, what has it done to our adrenals? Has it poisoned them completely?

Well, the good news is that we're past the hard part, huh? Congratulations everybody!!
