HI I am new to this so I'll just put it all out there. I am twenty years old, recently married, jus had a baby two months ago, and am living on a military base over seas with my husband (we moved here three months ago) which has ONE psychiatrist. I suffer from severe panic attacks, I am clinically depressed, and I have sever anxiety. I cannot get an appointment for three weeks to get meds. I am scared out of my mind. I went to see the base psychologist and he cannot perscribe me my meds. I asked what the heck I am supposed to do for three weeks? And he told me "panic attacks can't kill you, deal with it"!!!!! I am beside myself. I need advice on how to make it through the next three weeks. And even then they are not guaranteeing I will get medication. They are all about alternative therapy here. They told me just to go to group therapy! I have beenhospitalized twice because of the severety of my mental health, and they have the nerve to tell me all I need is group therapy? I have been on Paxil for three years prior to becoming pregnant and was about to be put on benzos for the panic. BUt sincee I got preggo I stopped all the meds, which was so hard. ANd for the attacks all they would give me were vicodin!? I am freaking out. I can barely make it through each day. I have two kolonopins left that I got off my friend, but that will last me untill tomorrow. DOes any one know what I can do or say to make them take me seriously? I am scared for me and my child. I have never felt so helpless.

Welcome to Babble. I don't have experience with military health care, but I betcha there is someone here who does. If you are in dire need, would you be able to go to an urgent care facility on base? It's true that panic attacks can't kill you, but it's also true that there is NO NEED to live with them. Have you tried any breathing techniques or relaxation stuff? Not that it would be easy with a new baby.
My advice would be to post something on the "Social" board to the tune of "Military mom in dire need" or something.
Good luck, and I hope you like our community here.

I don't know where you are, but unless you are in a third world country, you should try to find L-Tryptophan. I think it is readily available in Europe. It used to be sold in the U.S. in health food stores. It was outlawed in 1990, then made legal in 1994. It works very well for me. I order mine from www.healthrecovery.com. Take 500-1000 mg to get started. After about 10 days you should see a difference. Maybe if you can find some you can at least make it until you see the doctor.
