10 for Antarctica....
My obsession with Antarctica:
1. I love the weather
2. the shape is errotic
3. Now I discovered that a group called the Malchezadec Domaine has possession of part of our south pole
4. I am getting small stories about this cold foreboding place
5. there are Emperor Penguins who spend the entire winter huddled together in the most brutal of environments sitting on eggs
6. I saw an ice fish photo on Wikipedia, talk about adaptation!
7. The ice shelfs are melting...melting
8. the USA doesn't own an inche of the island
9. there are laws in place to protect the wild life
10 because it's so cold, we are talking 180 below zero, humans are not there much either.
11. okay I went one more....there are no lights on there during the night either. It's too cold.
So I probably convinced all of you to become obsessed with this lovely island as well. I love looking on the weatherunderground site to see what their temperature is. It's spring there and the temps in some areas are up to 40 degrees! whoa a heat wave!

Jai, packing her bags to move to Antarctica...the land of her dreams

I'd never want to rain on your parade, but I hope you've also read about the immense hole in the Earth's ozone layer above Antarctica due to greenhouse gases created by industrial pollution. Bring plenty of sunscreen! Say, SPF 10,000. And you should be fine. It is a strikingly beautiful continent. And bring fish for the penguins. ;) Atticus

So I wonder what impact that has on the Penguins...and marine life?
Does our north pole have the same sort of hole?
I just knew there would be a draw back to this cold but gorgeous island.
the small peninsula seems to have above zero weather a fair amount.
People do live on this island.
I wonder how they deal with this hole?
